Never protested before? Consider attending the No Kings protest on October 18th, 2025.
Protesting is a right under the First Amendment of the Constitution as part of the freedom of assembly.
Its purpose is to influence public opinion and government policy.
To be effective, protests must be lawful and peaceful. Otherwise, the cause can lose credibility/public support, and invite escalation of the use of force by Trump.
It’s strongly recommended to:
- know your rights during a protest, as well as follow instructions from law enforcement;
- de-escalation strategies if you encounter counter-protesters. See this training video from https://moveon.org for the previous Hands Off protest.
Other tips:
- guidance from Electronic Frontier Foundation of how to protect yourself from surveillance during a protest.
